What We Do

Grants That Support Affordable Community Veterinary Care Clinics

The Boca Fund’s grant program seeks to provide financial assistance to those communities that are working to establish full-service, non-profit Community Care Veterinary Centers that serve low income pet guardians.

These centers will need approximately $500,000 in start-up capital to purchase/rent and build-out facilities, secure veterinary equipment and medical supplies. The Boca Fund will provide $100,000 of the $500,000 once $400,000 from the local region is secured.

Notes on the operation: It is important. but not critical, that a veterinarian and a business person be involved. Why?

The veterinarian will be the medical director and be responsible for all medical activity.

The business person will be in charge of balancing the income with the expenses in order to keep the enterprise solvent. You will provide services at about 1/3 customary veterinary fees to make them affordable to low-income clients. That deficit must be made up through volume and fundraising. Good financial management is critical.

To have long-term success and the support of the veterinary community, these clinics must income qualify clients based on government guidelines. Interested parties must first contact Boca Fund’s President, Bob Christiansen and discuss your intent. It will be very important to work in collaboration with key animal welfare non-profits, government officials and local veterinary associations and gain their support as well as the communities.
